3 Things Everyone Forgets on Moving Day

Our Atlanta movers at All My Sons Moving & Storage know that moving is a busy and stressful time. You have 100 things going on at once and remembering to get everything packed and moved on top of setting up utilities, getting on top of school registrations and more can be overwhelming. All My Sons Moving & Storage Atlanta is here to help make your move easier! Here are three things that everyone forgets on moving day.

  1. Don’t pack important documents, items you use every day or high value items.

Once you start packing, it’s hard to stop. But remember that you may want to keep high value items like jewelry, antiques and more with you to avoid damage or them getting lost during the moving process. Important documents like birth certificates, social security cards, checks, contracts, etc. should also stay with you in case something unexpected happens and you need to reference those documents. You don’t want to have to unpack your boxes to get to your checks when you need one, or worse, have them packed in the truck already! Items you use every day like phone chargers, sunglasses, toothbrush, etc. you should keep on you in a travel bag for your move.

  1. Cancel and Set Up Utilities

Our Atlanta movers know nothing is worse than getting to your new place and having no electricity- except maybe paying for electricity and other utilities in both your old home and new home! Make sure you set up your new utilities like electricity, water, cable, and internet to get set up the day you move in, so you don’t have to wait to get your new home set up. And remember to call your current utility providers and give them your move date so they can cut off your service and stop billing you!

  1. Changing your address on your credit cards, memberships, and with the Post Office

You don’t want to miss important information because it is going to your old address. Make sure you take a couple hours prior to moving to change your address with the post office so they can help direct all mail to your new address. You can do this online or at your local post office. Call those memberships, credit cards and other companies who use your mailing address and ensure they have the updated info. Many of these companies will likely let you update them online too.

We hope these tips were helpful! For more advice and help for your upcoming move, check out our All My Sons Moving & Storage Checklist to make sure you don’t miss any other crucial parts of the moving process. Our Atlanta movers are excited to welcome you to your new home!
