Remove Smoking Stains in Your New Athens Home

There’s nothing worse than dealing with stains you find when you move into your new home. If you are a nonsmoker, smoking stains and smoking odor can really put a damper on your experience in your new home. Athens local movers have some smoking stain removal tips to help you get your home clean!

It’s important to know that you have to address both the smell and the stains in different ways.

Smoking Stains

There are special smoke removal scrubs that can be purchased online for this very reason. But rather than purchase an expensive solution, these smoking stain removal tips will focus on what you can do with household items.

If your Athens local movers have finished unpacking your belongings, then you can get started. Into a bucket, add 75% white vinegar and 25% water. Stir it up and scrub the smoke stained area. With enough force, you should be able to remove most of the stain.

Smoking Smells

Smells are harder to fix, and remember these smoking stain removal tips are meant to be home remedies, so they don’t work on tough odors. Sprinkle backing soda on the floors of the house, especially in carpeted areas. Let sit for about 30 minutes, then steam clean with a carpet shampooer to really get the smell out as much as possible; or, vacuum up with whatever vacuum you have – this option may have to be repeated numerous times before the smell is completely gone.

Cleaning floors and walls with bleach may also help; and with time, the smoking smell will likely fade.

Speak To the Seller or Landlord

Be sure to negotiate a lower asking price for the home or rent if the previous occupant was a smoker. You can also ask that a professional cleaner be brought in before the Athens local movers move you into the home. You can also deduct the cost of the professional cleaner from the price of the home or apartment, or have the landlord or seller pay for it prior to you moving in.
