Premier Atlanta Moving Company – 770-667-5023

If you will be moving to Atlanta for college, you may want to double check where you have decided to apply to. Yesterday, the University System of Georgia Board of Regents approved University System Chancellor Hank Huckaby’s proposal to merge Georgia State University with Georgia Perimeter College.

2014 combined enrollment numbers accounted for 53,927 students, which would make the consolidated university the largest in the state, beating the University of Georgia’s numbers by roughly 20,000 students per year.

Georgia State University President Mark Becker will be president of the large university, once the two are combined.

But this is not the only college merger that has been approved for the state. The University System of Georgia Board of Regents has also approved the merger of Kennesaw State University and Southern Polytechnic State University.

If you will be moving to attend one of Atlanta’s popular universities, you may want to consider one of the new consolidated schools. If you need help moving, local moving companies will gladly help move you into your new dorm here in Atlanta.

Atlanta news outlets and the Self Storage Association are reminding residents of the importance of cleaning your home after the holidays.

Since the holidays bring new gifts and home appliances, it is important to eliminate clutter and get rid of any old items that you now have replaced with a new one, of go through all of your old clothes in order to hang up your new ones.

Cutting down on home clutter can help save you money, and here’s how: the majority of Americans will not get rid of items that they feel they may use again someday, so they put it in storage. If you figure out the total cost that storing unused belongings will cost you, you will find that the total cost of storage is more expensive than getting rid of the items and buying a new one if you decide to finally use that record-player 5 years from now.

Rule of thumb for cleaning your home from clutter after the holidays: if you have not used something within the past year, chances are you will not be using it anytime soon.

Tips when purchasing new items with your holiday gift cards:

  • If it is clothing: will the new item replace an old item or is it just going to be an addition? How often will you wear the new item? Is it an item that you see yourself getting good use out of and keeping? Is it worth the money?

  • When it comes to technology: Are you replacing an old television or buying a new one for a room that does not have one? Is there a newer version that you should wait for?

If you are planning on moving during 2015, go through all of your belongings and decide what you really need and use frequently. Consider selling or donating anything that you have not used in over a year. Atlanta moving company All My Sons can help package, store, and move your belongings, but the less belongings you have to move and store, the less expensive moving will be.

Since its establishment 46 years ago, the Woodruff Arts Center has never seen a grant the size of the one that it was awarded earlier this month.

Top benefactor, the Robert. W. Woodruff Foundation, gave the grant to the Art Center in order to kick-start a fundraising campaign of at least $82 million. The campaign aims to boost the Art Center’s endowment by over $50 million, while investing $32 million in capital improvements. The $32 million in improvements will mainly go towards transforming the Alliance Theater.

Atlanta’s Arts Center is the largest cultural syndicate in the Southeast, and is comprised of four divisions: the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra, Alliance Theater, High Museum of Art, and Arts for Learning.

Residents from all over the State of Georgia and even from out-of-state, flock to the Arts Center for the many performances that they showcase year round.

Chairman of the Arts Center board of trustees Doug Hertz, says that the grant is an amazing gift because the Arts Center has so many initiatives that it needs help funding. Hertz also hopes that this donation will help encourage other donations.

The donation has helped allow for the reconstruction of the 46-year-old Alliance Theater, and President of the Woodruff Foundation Russ Hardin, says that the goals for the auditorium’s reconstruction were to make the audience more intimately connected with the stage and performances, create artistic excellence, and create a sense of community.

If you are moving to Atlanta, the Woodruff Arts Center will be featuring “A Christmas Carol” throughout the entire month. Local moving companies also recommend catching one of the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra concerts or the “It’s A Wonderful Laugh” show, also shown throughout the month.

For over 50 years, Atlanta residents have enjoyed the Macy’s tradition that is exclusive to them…the Pink Pig.

Priscilla is a large Pink Pig children’s ride that is located at the Macy’s at Lenox Square Mall.

The Pink Pig debuted in the 1950s as a children’s ride at downtown Rich’s store. The ride is open every holiday season and will be open until January 4, 2014.

If you and your family are moving to Atlanta this holiday season, park on the upper-level parking deck outside of the Macy’s at Lenox Square Mall and for only $3 your children can ride one of Atlanta’s most famous holiday traditions…the Pink Pig.

Local Atlanta moving companies want you and your family to be able to adjust to your new neighborhood, and would like to inform you that not only can your children have fun on the Pink Pig, but also that part of your $3 will go to benefit Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta.

Since the Pink Pig was moved to the Macy’s location, riding fees have helped to donate over $600,000 to Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta.

Join the many local businesses and entire families who come out and ride Priscilla, not only to continue the Atlanta tradition, but to be a big part in donating for children’s healthcare.

Get into the holiday spirit when shopping in Atlanta this Christmas season! Lenox Square and Phipps Plaza are offering free sleigh rides around town, in pedicabs.

A pedicab is a cycle rickshaw and can also be known as a bike taxi, velotaxi, or bikecab.

The sleigh ride pedicabs in Atlanta are painted red and have the face of a reindeer. They have three wheels (two in the back, one in the front), since tricycles offer a more stabilized, smoother ride. The reindeer cabs feature a fully enclosed back seat that fits two riders comfortably, but possibly three.

If you and your family are moving to Atlanta this month and are looking to tour the city while Christmas shopping for your loved ones. Take advantage of the sleigh ride pedicabs and shop Lenox Square and Phipps Plaza via Peachtree Street.

Phipps Plaza mall manager Dewayne Herbert says that, “our main goal at Lenox Square and Phipps Plaza is for our guests to enjoy the best possible shopping experience. The pedicab service, along with our other amenities and shopper experiences, will only further enhance the magic of the holiday season at our malls”.

Atlanta moving companies want you and your family to enjoy the first holiday season in our great city, and the reindeer pedicabs are the perfect way for your family to enjoy Christmas shopping and tour Atlanta’s popular shopping district at the same time. Let All My Sons Moving & Storage help to make your move easy and stress-free so that you can have a merry Christmas in Atlanta.

Gwinnett County is proposing a school redistricting plan that will affect thousands of students and urges parents to come to this Thursday’s meeting in order to give their feedback.

The redistricting is set for this fall and will affect 31 existing schools and over 13,000 students. Two of the elementary schools are to be joined with one middle school.

If you and your family are new Atlanta residents and live in Gwinnet County, local moving companies suggest that you attend the local council meetings in order to stay informed on what the correct district for your children will be, so that you can enroll them at the correct school in 2015.

The district proposed a plan that will establish attendance zones for numerous new schools, balance enrollment in existing schools, and discuss plans to create a new cluster of schools within Gwinnett County.

The plan was first launched in early October and has finally reached the stage where it is ready for public comment. Thursday’s meeting will be held from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. at the district’s instructional center in Suwanee.

If you will be moving to Atlanta during the beginning of December and will not be able to attend the first public meeting, there will be another held on December 18, before the School Board meeting where the Board of Education will be voting on the redistricting plan.

As gas prices reach a record low, Atlanta residents are racing to the pumps in order to fill-up for the holidays.

Crude oil barrel prices dropped from $100 to $80, resulting in lower gas prices across the nation.

The national average has reached a four-year record low, at $2.84. In Georgia, the average price per gallon has plummeted to $2.79.

Georgia resident Deianne Kennedy told Channel 2’s Dave Huddleston that gas prices in metro Atlanta are cheaper than in the Midwest, so she fills up in the big city.

“We love the gas prices down here, because up north they are sky high and when we come down here it’s really, really cheap,” says Kennedy.

AAA spokesperson Garrett Townsend says that his company estimates that 1.2 million drivers will be traveling the Atlanta roadways this Thanksgiving and recommends that unless you want to spend your holiday stuck in traffic, avoid the roads the Wednesday before Thanksgiving, and the Sunday after.

If you are moving to Atlanta before the end of the year, you may be able to have a more affordable move, saving hundreds of dollars on gas prices and fuel costs for your hired moving company. Your local Atlanta movers suggest that you take advantage of the lower price per gallon and plan your move before gas prices inevitably rise.

States around the country, 20 in total, have been legalizing marijuana.

While medical marijuana is controversial, many states are beginning to recognize the importance in legalizing the drug for its many medical benefits, and many people who can utilize those benefits are moving to those states.

Medical marijuana can be used to treat Glaucoma, reverse the carcinogenic effects of tobacco and improve lung health, control epileptic seizures, help stop the spread of cancer in the body, decrease anxiety, slow Alzheimer’s, ease the pain of multiple sclerosis, relieve arthritis, and much more.

An Atlanta lawmaker is motioning to put the topic of legalizing medical marijuana in the state of Georgia, on the discussion table.

Democratic Georgia State Senator Curt Thompson proposed two bills this month.

One of the bills allows for the sale of full plant medical marijuana for people with illnesses in which marijuana is beneficial to their health.

The second bill would allow regulated retail stores to sell marijuana to adults.

If the second bill is passed, the state would tax the drug and use the money to fund statewide education initiatives and transportation projects.

According to Thompson, “You could conceivably be raising $160 million a year.”

Thompson says that families with children who suffer from seizures are pushing for this bill.

It is important to keep in mind the benefits of marijuana when considering legalization and that is what Thompson is calling for.

Thompson says that he realizes his bills will most likely not be passed; however, the goal of the proposed bills is to spark discussion in the state about the topic, “until something passes, as long as it takes,” says Thompson.

If you are moving to Atlanta and you or a loved one has been diagnosed with an illness that benefits from the use of medicinal marijuana, join Thompson’s efforts at getting marijuana legalized in Atlanta.

If you are moving to Atlanta this holiday season, visit the famous World of Coca-Cola and see how the popular beverage brand has charmed its way to the kitchen tables of America and into hearts around the world.

Almost everyone can recall the popular Coca-Cola Christmas polar bear, just one of the examples of how Coca-Cola has been a major part of the American Christmas experience.

All My Sons of Atlanta wants new Atlanta families to visit the Coca-Cola Christmas exhibit this year.

The exhibit displays artifacts, memorabilia, and seasonal packaging that features two of the company’s favorite icons: Santa Claus and the Coca-Cola Polar Bear, dating back to 1922.

The Coca-Cola Polar Bear first made its debut on a French poster, while the animated version graced television sets in 1993.

Another Coca-Cola memento featured in their Christmas exhibit is a 1931 original 6-pack carrier.  This was the same year that artist Haddon Sundbloom created Coca-Cola’s famous Santa Claus.

Whether you are moving to Atlanta or just visiting, be sure to check out the home of America’s favorite soft drink and get more acquainted with the Coca-Cola Santa Claus and Polar Bear.
